Education is the accompanied acquisition of physical, emotional, personal, social, intellectual and practical skills by children that are prerequisites for all members of a culture. In ancient Greece, education meant both intellectual and ethical training and guiding people towards contemplating life\u2019s big questions. What mattered here was the attainment of excellence and the outstanding quality of their social and civic skills.<\/p>\n

Therefore education involves the act of one person, who knows the way, taking another by the hand, showing them that way and actively accompanying them. Every kind of education functions according to this model, environmental education too.<\/p>\n

With us at \u201cLa Belle Verte\u201d in Monchique, environmental education starts even during pregnancy; at the latest, however, after delivery. We follow the ancient tradition – whenever possible – of bringing our offspring into the world at home, and of planting a tree for every new-born child.
\nFor this, we look for native fruit trees at the local nursery in the knowledge that most of them already bear fruit after five or six years, which can then be enjoyed for the next 50 to 60 years.
\nSo, a few days after delivery, we set off with a hoe and spade in one hand and a bucket with the placenta in the other. This is buried in the earth under the tree, which is named after the new-born child. In doing so, we lay two of the most important building blocks of environmental education in the life of this new addition to the human race: permaculture and composting. Nothing organic is lost or wasted. And can one wish for a better environmental education than going to the tree the following spring holding one\u2019s child by the hand and saying: \u201cOh, look at all the bees on the tree\u2019s beautiful blossom. There will certainly be wonderful fruit this next autumn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mas alguns talvez se perguntem: \u201c\u00c9 tudo muito bonito, mas que tem isso a ver com o Natal e o inverno?\u201d
\nOra, n\u00e3o foi h\u00e1 2014 anos o nascimento de um beb\u00e9, que anos mais tarde ficou conhecido como o \u201ccarpinteiro de Nazar\u00e9\u201d, e que fundou o cristianismo? E n\u00e3o \u00e9 nesta \u00e9poca que, todos os anos, milh\u00f5es de pessoas celebram este dia como uma festa de alegria com presentes dos quais, a maioria, no dia do Ano Novo j\u00e1 s\u00e3o \u201cnot\u00edcias do ano passado\u201d?
\nE que tal se n\u00f3s este ano \u2013 por amor ao carpinteiro \u2013 ou tamb\u00e9m por amor a n\u00f3s pr\u00f3prios ou a uma pessoa que nos seja querida, plant\u00e1ssemos uma \u00e1rvore, para criar algo duradouro, uma fant\u00e1stica contribui\u00e7\u00e3o para a educa\u00e7\u00e3o ambiental e para ajudar a m\u00e3e Terra, a respirar um pouco melhor?<\/p>\n

Goethe disse uma vez: \u201cE se amanh\u00e3 tamb\u00e9m o mundo se acabasse, plantaria ainda hoje uma macieira.\u201d Ora, eu imagino que em 2014, para variar, n\u00e3o vamos investir os 10 a 20 euros, numa \u00e1rvore artificial, abatida, feita de pseudo-madeira que \u00e9 pretensiosamente chamada de \u00e1rvore de Natal, mas sim numa \u00e1rvore de ma\u00e7\u00e3s, viva, duradoura, com ra\u00edzes e tudo \u00e0 volta! Pois ent\u00e3o – e disto estou convencido – o mundo n\u00e3o se acabar\u00e1 amanh\u00e3! De qualquer forma, em nossa casa este ano v\u00e3o cavar-se alguns buracos: a minha mulher espera a quinta crian\u00e7a para o Natal. E, para al\u00e9m disso, a mudan\u00e7a de ano \u00e9 a melhor altura para se plantar. Felicidades\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
