{"id":20627,"date":"2016-03-25T00:00:50","date_gmt":"2016-03-25T00:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eco123.info\/en\/?p=20627"},"modified":"2016-03-23T01:07:00","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T01:07:00","slug":"beq-energy-of-the-algarve-that-can-also-be-eaten","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eco123.info\/en\/news\/beq-energy-of-the-algarve-that-can-also-be-eaten\/","title":{"rendered":"BEQ | energy of the algarve that can also be eaten"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Fig, carob, almond, honey and flower of salt are the ingredients of the 100% natural Queren\u00e7a Energy Bar (BEQ), made from the products of the Algarve <em>barrocal<\/em>; it comes in two versions, one for athletes, the other for the general public and children.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20612 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/eco123.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/BEQ_2-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"BEQ_2\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eco123.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/BEQ_2-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/eco123.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/BEQ_2-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/eco123.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/BEQ_2-1024x1024.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Queren\u00e7a Energy Bar (BEQ) came into being through a partnership between the Queren\u00e7a Project and the University of Algarve with the aim of taking young people with university degrees to the interior of the municipality of Loul\u00e9 to develop new ideas and put the region\u2019s natural resources to good use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea is to use indigenous products, but also to stimulate dryland cultivation, of figs, carob and almonds,\u201d says Bruno Rodrigues of the Algarve Trail Running Association, one of those in charge of the project, who is happy to see \u201cpeople from the Algarve\u2019s <em>serra<\/em> and <em>barrocal<\/em> regions asking us if we need suppliers. We are contributing to them keeping production going rather than abandoning their land or leaving the fruit on the trees,\u201d he says proudly. The BEQ was developed by the food engineer Romilson Brito and tested on competition athletes, and it has a low level of calories, \u201c100 good calories\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This Algarve-flavoured snack started being sold last year and, according to Bruno Rodrigues, \u201cthe aim is to grow slowly in order to maintain the product\u2019s quality; we do not use almonds from California or figs from Turkey. The exception is puffed rice, which we do not have; we only use Algarve ingredients, and when they run out, we stop production. It\u2019s part of the project.
