In close to four days \u2013 on Thursday, 23rd June \u2013 he is\u00a0planning to land his plane in Seville.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarimpulse.com\/leg-15-from-New_York-to-Seville\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-21280 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/eco123.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/solarimpulse-1-1024x790.png\" width=\"618\" height=\"477\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But why in Seville and not in Faro? Why in Spain and not in Portugal? Have those\u00a0responsible at Faro airport and in the RTA tourist board once again failed to read\u00a0the signs of the times? While people are drilling for dirty oil and gas in the Atlantic\u00a0off Tavira and Aljezur, local politicians and tourism managers could have\u00a0demonstrated NOW that, from today onwards, the signs of the times point to clean\u00a0mobility.<\/p>\n<p>In an impressive way, they could have shown \u2013 without further moaning and\u00a0wasting further words \u2013 that they are in tune with our times. SOLARIMPULSE 2, an\u00a0aeroplane weighing 2.3 tonnes and equipped with four electric motors and 17,248\u00a0solar cells, is on its way to circumnavigate the globe for the first time. But the first\u00a0airport after crossing the Atlantic is FARO and not Seville. So, why isn\u2019t\u00a0SOLARIMPULSE 2 landing in Faro?<\/p>\n<p>It would be impressive for ALL OF US to be able to welcome the solar-powered\u00a0\u201cperpetuum mobile\u201d aeroplane and set a new trend to counter the madness of\u00a0commercial civil aviation, which pumps millions of tonnes of aviation fuel in the\u00a0form of CO\u00b2 into the atmosphere every day. SOLARIMPULSE 2 is the solar-powered\u00a0future and, during these days, it represents the beginning of the end of dirty, civil\u00a0aviation. Civil air transport is responsible for 12% of transportation emissions\u00a0worldwide, and for 2.4% of all global emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The oil industry managers have some reason to smile when they face criticisms\u00a0from the opponents of the drilling, accept their petitions and then enquire discreetly\u00a0whether they are now charging their vehicles with electricity or are still filling up\u00a0with petrol (diesel) at their own petrol stations\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Moaning and criticising is only ok if you don\u2019t just look for and demand change from\u00a0others but start with yourself. That\u2019s why I\u2019m starting the CLEAN MOBILITY blog at\u00a0www.eco123.info and reveal that I am the first person in the Algarve to have\u00a0bought an electric car from a French manufacturer.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s called a ZOE ZEN \u2013 a truly\u00a0seductive name \u2013 and I will be telling you here if the car really lives up to the\u00a0manufacturer\u2019s promises or whether this is just another case of GREEN WASHING.\u00a0Write to me here about your experiences with electric vehicles in the first few days\u00a0of this new age.
