Now, here for once we have not just talk \u2013 things are actually delivered. Last Monday, the new museum of Vila do Bispo was inaugurated by Mayor Rute Silva in the presence of the president of the Algarvian CCDR (Coordination and Development Commission) Jos\u00e9 Apolin\u00e1rio. The new Museum Vila do Bispo is called O Celeiro da Hist\u00f3ria<\/em> \u2013 The Barn of History – and is the result of the restoration of the former Celeiros de Vila do Bispo<\/em> – EPAC. The formerly dilapidated building has been transformed into a public cultural centre. A public centre of history and culture where the historical, cultural and natural heritage of the Vila do Bispo municipality is presented to visitors.<\/p>\n

The project, which required an investment of more than 2.9 million euros, was financed to the tune of 1,981 million euros by the EU CRESC ALGARVE 2020 programme. Retaining the existing architecture, the new museum offers an exhibition of stories about the region’s collective heritage, from the geological foundations to the paleontological ichnofossils of dinosaurs (biological activity) to the most distant cultural traces of human presence identified by archaeology, about history and its events and personalities, the underwater archeology of shipwrecks and naval battles, the richness and uniqueness of the local biodiversity and the ethnographic memory of the “people of the South-West Cape”; and the mystical mystery of the sea.<\/p>\n
