Living, as we are now, in the heat of the climate crisis, when the forest in Portugal is on fire, we know exactly what we have to do to put it out. We call the fire department, and we quickly roll out our own hoses. It’s all quite clear, isn’t it? We don’t wait until 2035 or even longer. We don’t wait to put out the fire. Why is it taking so long to implement the transformation in the energy sector? Solar and wind energy have been around for a long time now, hydroelectricity for centuries. The point is to ban fossil fuels.
Why does it always take so long for those who are partly responsible for the climate crisis, such as the sheikhs of the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia – and many others – to put out the fire from which they are making so much money? Why don’t they just leave the oil and gas in the ground? Because it makes money, and there’s an enormous industry making money from it. So, the logic is purely capitalist in nature. But the laws of nature cannot be reconciled with the laws of the market. We realise that the laws of nature are crucial for the future of humanity. So, what do we do with the market?
