It identifies how rural depopulation, an ageing population, the spread of eucalyptus plantations, land fragmentation and climate change have contributed to increasing the country’s vulnerability. The document also highlights the role of droughts and heatwaves in the spread of fires and warns of the growing human impact of these disasters, reflected in the rise in mortality in urban-forest interface areas. Este relatório da Greenpeace analisa a evolução do risco de incêndios florestais em Portugal desde 1867. Identifica como o abandono rural, o envelhecimento da população, a expansão do eucalipto, a fragmentação da propriedade e as alterações climáticas contribuíram para aumentar a vulnerabilidade do território. O documento destaca ainda o papel das secas e das ondas de calor na propagação dos incêndios e alerta para o crescente impacto humano destas catástrofes, refletido no aumento da mortalidade em áreas de interface urbano-florestal.
