Curious about the beginning of May…

1 May 2025 falls on Thursday this year. As a holiday in spring, it’s the perfect opportunity to take the whole family on a trip to the countryside. What can we see there? We can see how plants and mushrooms grow in salt water and turn into food. In salt water?

ECO123 recommends the programme of the organic shop ‘Mercearia Bio’ in Lagos, organised in collaboration with the agricultural producer ‘Salivitae’ in Mexilhoeira Grande. As a reader, you have the exclusive opportunity to see for yourself how vegetables are grown organically on site. The programme starts at 11:00 am and there will be guided tours of the farm’s greenhouses.

On 1 May, you and your families will be able to visit Salivitae’s Salicornia production in Mexilhoeira Grande, and we invite our readers to accompany us.

The programme is as follows:

11.00a.m. Meeting at Salivitae in Mexilhoeira Grande, the exact route will be announced after registration;

11.15a.m. Tour of the farm’s greenhouses;

12.30p.m Buffet lunch prepared on site;

2:00p.m. Walk to the second part of the farm;

2.30p.m Treasure hunt in the Salicornia fields – a group activity for children aged 6 to 16. Coffee, tea and biscuits;

2.45p.m Tour of the second part of the farm;

4:00p.m Treasure hunt, prize-giving and farewell.

If you take part in this family-friendly day in the countryside, you will be able to get to know a local producer dedicated to salicornia, a product that is becoming increasingly important in Portuguese and international cuisine.
